Get to Know the BDBF Attorneys – Spring Break Edition!

It’s March!  This means that it’s Spring Break season for college students.

Inquiring minds asked about the favorite spring break memories of BDBF attorneys.  Details have been polished over to protect the innocent (and perhaps the guilty).

During my senior year of college at SUNY Geneseo, a few of my college roommates and I went to Prague and Munich to visit some of our friends who were studying abroad at the time. We did our fair share of eating, walking, and of course, having just a few sips of German beer! The only downside of the trip was that I missed a connecting flight in Berlin and I had to wait 9 hours by myself in the Berlin Airport for the next flight to Prague.

Spring break of my first year of law school, six classmates and I flew to Key West for a week of fun, sun, and extracurriculars (we are all members of the Bar now, so no disqualifying extracurriculars!)  Key West was a blast, but it is in second place.  My best Spring Break trip ever was to Atlanta, Georgia in 2002 as a senior at the University of Maryland.  Not exactly the beaches of Cancun, I know, but it was paradise for us Maryland students when we road-tripped en masse to see our Terps win the NCAA basketball championship in person!

During college, my now-husband and I went to Daytona Beach with a group of our friends and stayed in a family member’s beach house together for free (Editor’s Note: when it’s a family member’s beach house, the debauchery is slightly limited). A few years later, I won the battle with my now-husband—he wanted to go to Universal, and I wanted to go to Disney World.  I told him he could go to Universal Studios the following year.  In between, Universal Studios permanently closed the ride he had always wanted to go on and he will never let me live it down.

I had the amazing opportunity to play lacrosse for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and each spring break offered a chance to stay in New Brunswick and play lacrosse with my best friends.  Spring break of 1999 was particularly memorable to me because it involved a southern tour to the Commonwealth of Virginia to face Radford College and the eventual Division 1 National Champions from the University of Virginia.  Those were my first two games as a starting goalie for the Knights and, while we managed to win in my debut against Radford, the ball did not bounce our way later in the week against the mighty Cavs.  Although the loss still stings these many years later, I will never forget the exhilaration of stepping onto the field for Rutgers and it is a memory I forever will cherish.

Before I had a family of my own to take on Spring Break, my favorite Spring Break trip was during law school. My dad was still active duty military, and my parents lived in a small village in Germany. Two of my law school buddies, who remain close friends today, traveled with me to visit. We toured various tiny towns, including a stay in a castle on a riverbank. We took the train to Munich, enjoyed the food and drink, and rented bikes to explore the city.
