Philip (“Phil”) Kuljurgis is an attorney of counsel to the firm and works primarily in the firm’s personal injury practice group.  He also represents clients in contested civil and estate matters and prepares wills and estate planning documents.  He has extensive litigation experience, having taken literally hundreds of cases to trial in the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia courts.  This experience included trying cases to juries in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.

Phil has decades of experience with insurance companies.  Before dealing with them on behalf of his injured clients, he worked for them.  He was a law clerk at an insurance company while in law school.  After law school, Phil represented insurance companies and their insureds in private practice.  More recently, he supervised litigation throughout the country as in-house counsel at the headquarters of one of the country’s largest insurers.  From his experience representing insurance companies, Phil can accurately assess the strengths and weaknesses of a claim as well as the way an insurance company is likely to evaluate the claim.  Phil’s experience trying cases before juries across the DMV gives him insight into how a jury is likely to view a claim and a client.  The decision of whether to settle or go to trial is a difficult decision.  While no two cases or juries are alike, Phil is able to draw upon his experience to keep his clients informed of all issues relevant to their cases, empowering the client to make the best-informed choice possible.

Phil is often asked: How much is my case worth?  He says, “There are few rules and certainly no formulas that tell you exactly how much your case is worth.  Continually assessing all relevant factors and reassessing the entire case file each time new information is uncovered does allow us to define what success might look like and how to best reach that outcome.”
