Memorial Day Weekend—at once, a holiday to mark a solemn occasion, but simultaneously the unofficial start of summer.
How do BDBF attorneys commonly spend their long Memorial Day Weekend? We asked them!
Memorial Day Weekend means the start of summer and the start of wedding season! In years past we have had a cookout with our friends and we will continue with that tradition this year. We also have our first wedding of the year over Memorial Day Weekend and will be two weeks out from our own wedding!
My Memorial Day Weekend usually involves fussing over how seriously to take my submission to the neighborhood cookout and worry that my potato salad is nowhere near as good as when Grandma made it. Then I usually drag my kids to a Civil War battlefield and take time to remember those who gave the last full measure. Such an undertaking requires an alliance with Mrs. Kuljurgis and so a trip to a winery is usually also arranged.
My Memorial Day Weekends usually consist of long days in the sun with friends or family. Each year is different and usually unplanned… you can find me trying to catch an invite on a friend’s boat tied to the dock at the Georgetown Waterfront or in my family’s backyard in a cornhole showdown. No matter where I am, I am definitely enjoying some sun, drinks, and delicious food!
I am nothing if not a man of routine. Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend starts with a long Peloton ride, followed by breakfast with the family at our favorite local greasy spoon diner, followed almost immediately by racing to the neighborhood pool to be near the front of the line when it opens at the stroke of noon. And Sunday night of Memorial Day Weekend – that’s when crab season begins at the Rachlin home!
As the proud daughter of a U.S. Air Force veteran, Memorial Day is more than just the unofficial start of summer. It is an opportunity to honor those who have lost their lives while defending our great country. So I’ll be listening to Lee Greenwood from the bow of a boat, raising a crisp American beer to toast all the military service members who have sacrificed so I can live in the land of the free.
Memorial Day Weekend means one thing and only one thing in the Shaivitz household – the Division 1 Men’s Lacrosse Final Four. Nothing beats watching the finest teams in college lacrosse battling it out for the National Championship, except maybe the massive tailgate parties and parking lot grill-fests. This year we will be up in Philly to watch the games and my kids will play in a youth national tournament the same weekend. I can’t wait to be tired, hoarse, and sunburnt by Monday!
